Spring Cleaning Do’s and Dont's for Window Care

Is window care on your spring-cleaning list? If so, you’ll want to keep this overview handy for some do’s and don’ts when it comes to your window care. Here are some important tips to keep in mind when caring for your windows.

Do Clean All Parts of Your Window

Most people think a quick wipe-down of the interior glass is sufficient, but there’s much more to your windows than that. To fully clean your windows, you’ll want to wipe down the frames inside and out, both sides of the window glass, and rinse off the screen.

Do Use the Right Materials to Clean Your Windows

There are specific window cleaning sprays and products available to properly clean your windows. No matter what product you choose, make sure it’s a vetted choice that’s designed to clean your windows without causing damage. Additionally, you’ll want to use a microfiber towel or cloth to wipe your windows to avoid streaking and residual lint. We recommend using AMGO Second Glance streak-free, non-fogging, glass cleaner.

Do Inspect Your Windows for Damage

It’s important to check your windows regularly for any signs of damage or deterioration. So, make it a part of your spring-cleaning routine! Here’s what to do:
• Visually inspect your windows for any clear signs of deterioration
• Make sure the windows open, close, and lock properly
• Check out the caulking and weatherstripping around your window frame to notice any damage

Do Clean Your Windows Regularly

Cleaning your windows isn’t something you need to do every week. In fact, you can probably get away with only doing it a few times each year. It all depends on the conditions your windows are exposed to and how they’re looking. But regular cleaning and maintenance can go a long way in extending the lifespan of your windows.

Don’t Clean on Hot or Sunny Days

It’s less pleasant to be outside cleaning when it’s extremely hot and sunny anyway, but there’s a good reason to avoid cleaning your windows in these conditions too. The heat and sunlight can cause your cleaning spray to quickly evaporate, drying on the window glass before you have a chance to wipe it away. It’s counterproductive.

Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals or Abrasive Textures

We already discussed the materials and window cleaners that are a good idea to use. In addition to that point, it’s important to avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, and other inappropriate cleaning products that can scratch or corrode your windows.
